Graduates of SHRIM Programs Celebrate New Beginnings

10 March 2025

The Angelo King International Center (AKIC) Campus of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is home to the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM). Known for its programs that prepare students for success in the tourism and hospitality industries, SHRIM continues to produce graduates who inspire through their dedication and dreams.

Three graduates, each from different programs under SHRIM, shared their experiences and plans after earning their degrees. Their stories show the importance of hard work, perseverance, and the opportunities that Benilde gives to its students.

Krista Leigh Vega, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management (BS-HRIM) majoring in Travel and Tourism Management, described her time at Benilde as eventful. For her, it was a rollercoaster of emotions filled with fun and valuable lessons.

After graduation, Krista plans to travel and explore career opportunities in the industry. She encourages current and future students to stay true to themselves and their passions. “Time goes by really fast. Stay true to what you are dreaming of and what you are passionate about,” she shared.

Elizah Magliquian, a graduate of the BS-HRIM program majoring in Culinary Arts, expressed gratitude for the unique opportunities Benilde provides. “Benilde gave me opportunities that nobody else can,” she said.

Elizah is set to begin a post-graduate internship in Canada this April to further her studies and expand her skills. She advises students to join organizations during their time at Benilde. “Organizations teach you real-life applications and help you build connections that can be useful in the future,” she shared.

Arggie Roy Busalla, a graduate of the Doctor in Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) program, began his Benilde journey in 2022 during the pandemic. The experience, he said, was smooth and hassle-free, from the enrollment process to the conduct of classes. He commended the professors and academic staff at AKIC, calling them “the epitome of hospitality.

Already an accomplished professional, Arggie serves as Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Southeastern Philippines. After earning his doctorate, he is considering pursuing either a PhD in Management or a Juris Doctor degree. Arggie encourages fellow students to stay motivated and allocate time wisely for their studies. “The desire to finish your degree should start from within. Compete with yourself and always aim to help others,” he advised.

SHRIM prepares its students for bright futures in tourism and hospitality. From industry-ready programs to global opportunities, Benilde equips graduates to excel in their chosen fields. These stories of Krista, Elizah, and Arggie show how education at Benilde is more than academic. It is about nurturing dreams and shaping futures.

Recently, the BS-HRIM program has been elevated to the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Luxury Management. Culinary Arts is now offered as the Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts Management, and Travel and Tourism Management has become the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management with specialization in areas of Tourism Creations, Tourism Entrepreneurship, and Tourism Relations. Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management maintains its prestige as a double-degree program in partnership with the Vatel Programme. Graduate programs like Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management (MSTHM), Doctor in Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM), and Doctor of Philosophy in Tourism and Hospitality Management by Research (PHD-THM) are also offered by SHRIM, giving students the opportunity to further their academic and professional growth.

Parents looking for a school that will prepare their children for successful careers in the dynamic world of tourism and hospitality can find inspiration in the achievements of these SHRIM graduates. With Benilde’s focus on practical learning, strong industry connections, and global perspectives, students are set to thrive wherever their ambitions take them.
