Mcaine Carlos: MMA Graduate with a Multitude of Gratitude

29 July 2024

Mcaine Andre Carlos, a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Arts graduate at Benilde, has just reached an extraordinary personal milestone. In the Commencement Exercises held by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on July 27, 2024, he has been honored with two prestigious awards: Summa Cum Laude and the Saint Benilde Romançon Award. These accolades reflect his dedication and hard work. “Thank you, thank you so much,” Mcaine says with gratitude.

The Saint Benilde Romançon Award is the highest honor given to a student at the College who excels academically and demonstrates outstanding service, leadership, or athletic achievements. The awardee exemplifies Benildean-Lasallian values, particularly social responsibility and a passion for service.

Mcaine attributes much of his growth to his involvement in student organizations at Benilde. “My time in Benilde with the different student organizations really helped me hone my leadership skills and technical skills beyond my field, which is Multimedia Arts,” he shares. His most memorable moment was winning the Gawad Benildyano Most Outstanding Student Development Project. “It’s fulfilling to uphold Benildean-Lasallian values and create a socially relevant event,” he adds. Mcaine was the recipient of Outstanding Student Development Project with a Special Citation for having the Best Presentation in Group Category for for his involvement in the advocacy event titled #WeCan2022: Pilipino para sa Pilipinas at the 30th Gawad Benildyano in January 2023.

As a student in the Multimedia Arts Program, Mcaine is proud of the education he received. “Our institution really upholds quality in this program. If people outside Benilde hear about the Multimedia Arts Program, they think of our Benilde,” he asserts. He credits the expertise and knowledge of the faculty for preparing his career path like no other. “The proficiency of our professors really contributed to that. My career path was elevated because of the connections I made through my professors and peers,” he emphasizes.

The Multimedia Arts program, housed in the Design+Arts Campus, emphasizes critical thinking and innovation to cultivate creative multimedia practitioners. The program equips students with essential digital arts skills and confidence in innovation, guiding them through the entire process of digital arts projects—from conceptualization to execution and exhibition. With faculty members who are active industry professionals, students receive practical, real-world advice and skills, preparing them to create impactful, contemporary work that meets the needs of the larger society.

Two professors, in particular, have made a lasting impact on Mcaine: Sir Gosh and Sir Gio Gonzalez. “Both of them are my professors for video editing and post-production. They were the most significant professors I’ve had in this institution because they have the balance of not just teaching us the advanced skills in multimedia, but also taking care of our well-being. And I think that’s a culture that we foster here in Benilde,” Mcaine explains.

Mcaine also found support through Benilde’s scholarship programs. “Benilde offers a lot of scholarships. I was able to attend through a scholarship,” he recounts. The connections with industry experts provided by his professors also opened doors to work opportunities while he was still a student. “That gives us the chance to work while being students with those connections they have,” he notes.

Mcaine’s advice to current and future students is straightforward: show up and open up. “Show up even on bad days. It’s important because that’s the only way to experience things,” he urges. He also emphasizes embracing the opportunities and activities Benilde offers. “Open up to the opportunities and activities that Benilde has. Whether it’s joining student organizations or supporting our Blazers, open up because college is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he advises.

Mcaine Carlos’ Benildean journey shows the importance of education, community, and seizing opportunities. His story inspires all students to strive for excellence with dedication, openness, and support.
